Bao grew up in a small fishing village with his elder sister and two parent in northern Vietnam called Nam Dinh. His father is a fisherman and his mother is a tailor.
In 8th grade one of his teachers recommended he compete in the province physics competition. He achieved the highest score in his district and the second place overall and was subsequently accepted into the nearest talented and gifted high school where he moved into the dorms and “became quite independent”/ In high school he competed in the Vietnamese national competition twice. The first time he won 3rd prize and the second time he won 2nd prize.
He wanted to attend VinUniversity because of VinUni’s international standard and VinUni had the best computer science and engineering program in the country. He spent a year improving his English before applying. Now that he is here, he loves VinUni because of the individualized attention he receives and the friends he has made who enjoy talking about math and physics. He says the best students don’t don’t come from rich families and are just like him. He is currently working 20-40 hrs a week on generative AI application with VinAI in addition to taking a full time courseload. He feels fortunate to do world class research and appreciates that this would be impossible without his scholarship support.
After VinUni he plans to pursue and Masters of Engineering in the US. After completing his masters he plans to work for an AI company to build his experience before starting his own company that focuses on the AI-hardware interfaces.
He hopes to recognize the generosity of VinUni sponsors by becoming successful so he can give back to the scholarship fund and also contribute to the economic development of Vietnam.
