Tran’s upbringing in Hanoi unfolded amidst the challenges posed by severe alcohol use disorders spanning several generations within her family. With her mother serving as a college lecturer and her father incapacitated due to his disorder, Tran witnessed the debilitating impact on her family, including her grandfather’s stroke, her uncle’s demise from cirrhosis and hepatic encephalopathy, and her father’s battle with diabetes, hypertension, and delirium tremors – all stemming from or exacerbated by alcohol use disorder.
This personal journey ignited Tran’s profound interest in behavioral health and chronic disease management. Delving into medical literature from a young age, she aimed to comprehend the intricacies of healthcare providers’ interactions with patients. Opting for a career in nursing, Tran aspired to provide comprehensive care to families, equipping them with the tools to break the cycle of health challenges triggered by individual behaviors or mental health disorders.
At VinUni, Tran has immersed herself in qualitative research, actively contributing to projects centered on chronic disease management and mental wellness, securing 5 grants, participating in 3 international conferences, and publishing 10 papers, with two as the first author. Tran secured funding for an exchange program to the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA), which allowed her to delve into clinical trials and gain insights into the interconnected challenges of HIV, TB, and COVID-19 syndemics. Her academic performance is reflected in her consistent presence on the Dean’s List, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.7. She has been honored with the EXCEL Award for eXceptional capabilities and earned a place on the President’s List for the academic year 2022/2023.
Post-graduation, Tran envisions gaining experience in general nursing care and palliative care. Her trajectory includes the pursuit of the NCLEX exam, followed by a DNP abroad specializing in Adult-Gerontology Primary care. Subsequently, she aims for post-doctoral training in Health Informatics and Public Health. Acknowledging that her educational journey was made possible through scholarships, Tran hopes to pay this opportunity forward by uplifting patients and families grappling with chronic diseases, ultimately enhancing overall well-being. Grateful for the support from VinUni, she aspires to make her supporters proud of her accomplishments and future endeavors.’
