Chinenye Susan Ekwebelem

College of Health Sciences

Susan grew up in Lagos Nigeria in an extended family of nurses (auntie and 3 cousins) who pursued nursing training and job opportunities in the US. All the federal universities in Nigeria went on a national strike in her final year of study. Susan did not want to delay her education and pursued international schools. She had heard of VinUni from a Nigerian friend (Paitence also a VinUni nursing student from Nigeria), was impressed with the international opportunities VinUni offers and applied. When she was accepted on an 80% scholarship, her parents did not want her to attend because it was so far away and they knew little about Vietnam. Susan’s auntie, who is a nurse based in the US convinced her parents to grant permission.

Susan’s goal is to become a surgical nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She is interested in surgical nursing because she wants to support a highly technical team – and she also really likes scrubs.

Her scholarship has made her studies possible as her parents could not afford to send Susan abroad to study. She is grateful to our funders for making her dream possible at pursuing international nursing training. She thanks our donors for giving her and our other students hope that they too can fulfill their dreams.
