Le Dinh Nam
College of Engineering and Computer Science
Nam grew up in Vung Tau in Southern Vietnam, where he developed a deep love for mathematics at age 5. He would ask his parents to take him for a walk so he could read the numbers on the houses in his neighbourhood. In grade 5, he earned his first bronze medal in the V-Olympic math competition. He began teaching math at age 7 to his fellow and younger students and is a math tutor. He later received 2nd prize in the Vietnamese Math Olympics and was identified as the top 50 best math students in Vietnam. He also enjoys chess, piano, guitar, ukulele, tango and rumba.
He came to VinUni for an international experience based in Vietnam. He has since studied abroad at Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain with a grant for this exchange semester offered by the European Union.
The best part of VinUni is the people because they have helped him learn and make good memories such as nights playing guitar and singing together and trips to other cities in Vietnam.
He appreciates his full-ride scholarship at VinUni because it gives him financial independence from his parents. He has “a chance to live independently” and “focus all my attention on developing myself.”
He plans to pursue a master’s or Ph.D. in applied mathematics, preferably in Europe, with a focus on math applications in Artificial Intelligence or Data Science. He appreciates his professors, who have inspired and shown him that learning can be fun. “I love the energy, how we communicate and support each other to become global citizens.”
